Opinion: comparing a show or movie to the novel it is based on is always fruitless. A movie lasts 90 to 120 minutes and can only communicate through audio and images. The experience of a novel can last weeks, months, even years, and can convey meaning over any channel that can be encoded in words. TV and movies are entirely separate art forms from novels, and should not be directly compared.
