I hitched from Singapore across Indonesia to East Timor/ Timor Leste. That was 11 years ago and took me 3 months to do. I agree with most of what you have mentioned although I didn’t have a prop. I travelled light and end up buying a tent along the way so I used that when it seems safe and appropriate. I definitely got invited numerous times for meals and also to stay with them in their home. My body adapted that I could sleep anywhere as I was hitch-hiking on an almost daily basis. Good times 😊
