The truth is that different types of shows need different episode counts. Episodic shows like hospital procedurals and sitcoms can run 22 episode seasons. Superhero shows/YA drama tend to do better closer to 15 or 16 episodes. The big high budget blockbusters tend to prefer about 10-11 episodes followed by an extra long final episode. But we can all agree that waiting multiple years for only 8 episodes isnt good enough. The shows are rushed, incompetent, and ruin all the effort that goes in.
