I was buying beer from Walmart. A six pack of bud light. The attendant to the self checkout area then proceeded to ask for my ID and also my friend’s ID. This is policy? I’ve never had that happen before and probably never will.

Might be company policy. I've seen senior citizens get carded just because it was company policy to card everybody, regardless of age.

If they suspected either of you were underage, then yes that's common - illegal for a minor to buy it, and illegal to sell it knowing it will go to a minor. It happens to me all the time (I'm very short, so I look younger than I am) 🤷🏼♀️

Third party purchases are illegal. Everybody appearing under 40 is carded.

I have seen states send in 2 people, 1 being too young. The store doesn't want to get fined or lose their license.

The payment system probably requires them to input a birthdate so they check everyone's ID.

It is, should have left your friend in the car if they were underage. If your friend was underage they would not sell the beer to you. You were accompanied by a minor!
