I agree. I thought the acting by everyone, including Russel Crowe, was terrible. I thought that as a teenager when it first came out, and I still think that today.

A lot of it isn’t great, but the soundtrack and cinematography are fantastic. It also led to the far superior “Kingdom of Heaven”. I also loved Oliver Reed’s performance in it, small though it was and obviously tinged with the thought that it was his last. It was akin to Peter O’Toole in “Troy”, just a little cameo in a couple of scenes that blows the rest of the cast away.

In theaters it was an instant classic after repeated views the content becomes less impactful but the sound and style still hold up.

Loads was good about it.

I remember really like it but then I rewatched it recently, did not have the same impression.

You realize tv edited films are often poorly formatted for small screens ruining the visuals and dialogue is dubbed over to remove controversial elements? I wouldn’t be surprised if they cut out entire scenes to make room for ad breaks. You haven’t seen Gladiator or any other piece of cinema on television.
