KU is a paid subscription to a library, and you return each book. Authors are paid out of the subscription pool based on how many pages you read. If you are paying per book, it is not a KU loan, it is a kindle book purchase. Unlike KU, you should NEVER return a kindle book purchase as it charges the author the whole price, not just their royalties.
