I want people to stop saying “you’re supposed to be a therapist “ , or “you’re supposed to be a mental health professional “ , I rent my title but I own my character, I’m not at work , the world is not my client, I don’t have to use my skills in every setting, im allowed to be upset ,frustrated, I’m allowed to cuss someone out , cause omg she’s human 🙊 I see people say therapist are always in our role , but when we take the hat off , we are consistently reminded of our job title 🥴

3 小時內	Susette Magana susette.magana.therapy	I get this. It’s exhausting to be expected to keep the posture of holding our own perspectives and emotions for the sake of whoever we’re talking to. I only have 20 hours a week in me. Everyone else gets the real me.

In the same way. We don’t expect a mechanic to come home and work on all the cars in the street, or a hairdresser to be none stop cutting hair, we all need space to switch off from the skills we use at work.

When my own therapist told me that I can practice radical acceptance w patients w/o needing to practice it amongst friends and family, it was blew my mind 😆 I was like, "So I don't need to tolerate poor treatment from friends even if I know it's a result of trauma?" And she (in much kinder words) said, "Yes, dummy. They're not paying you!"
一天內	Emilia Erker \| Psicóloga psicologiatogo	Thank you. Been dealing with this a lot lately. I'm pretty sure people who make these remarks are abusive in some way in their contexts. Not allowing therapists be humans, put some boundaries or speak up for ourselves is basically calling us for submission all the time because ✨️therapists✨️. It's not right, it's not healthy and it can be a big burden for many. This, among many other reasons, is why our job is one of the most exposed to develop depression and suic1d4l risk.
