I live in NSW, but the Queensland government has just reduced public transport fares to 50 cents a trip. Ask your university campus if they have a campus bus/ or security service for late night classes. When I was at uni, they had a service that you could call and they would drive you from the campus to another building, or to the nearest train station at night. They also have a free shuttle bus.

Look up local area social groups whether it be book club, art clubs, social sports or friendship groups. it great way to meet people and make new friends. make a list of pro and cons for university in the area that related to your course in term of scheduling, location, resource etc. for safety wise don’t go out late or alone always, make sure someone know where you are at all time. carry sanitizer and wipes you never know what germs are in shops or bus. Above all enjoy the experience, have fun

Safety tips? If it crawls or wriggles or is a new animal, don't touch it, even if it's fluffy. Wear sunscreen, buy a big hat, and drink a lot more water than you think you need to.

Part 2: swim between the flags, don't turn your back on the waves and wear insect repellent in summer. You'll be sweet :) your uni should help with clubs and social recommendations.

I live in Buderim. Public transport is just buses but lots near the uni. It’s pretty safe. Just be careful at night. Ubers are readily available. A bike would be your best friend and make life a lot easier. Best cafe is Velo project in Mooloolaba.

I’m an old bird that’s lived in and around Buderim for the last 40 years. Public transport is pretty limited but if you’re only worried about uni and the beach etc at first you should manage ok. Loads of brilliant food/coffee options on the Coast, it’s one thing we do well along with fantastic beaches! I like Wyld at Cotton Tree but there really are plenty. Good luck!

If you’re in Buderim you should make it a point to go to Hampton’s. Best cafe I ever been to!

Life is as hard as you make it. Buderim is a beautiful suburb with eateries, the uni, takeaways,a bush land botanical gardens, close to the M1 and 9km from the beach at Mooloolaba. Sweet pieces cafe, Junk, The Bower Tree, all great eateries in walking distance for me and near the uni. The Sunshine Motorway can be backed up at times but hey that’s life when you live here….i just go a different route or leave at a different time. You’ll learn what’s busy and when. It’s a beautiful country.
