I wouldn’t wait for rheumatology to contact you. Call the clinic and say you doctor sent in the referral. I’ve done this a couple of times with referrals to specialists and works great. I find takes the initiative is always better than waiting and worrying. Good luck

Have you tried dry mouth lozenges? When I had canker sores the old duffer family doc told me to suck on hard candies. I went through a lot of lemon drops.

Try switching to an SLS-free toothpaste for a while. That stopped the cancker sores for my daughter.

They thought I had Sicca syndrome, I probably spelled that wrong. But in my case, it ended up being a medication I was on.

Change doctor?

I know someone with that autoimmune disease. My sister has a different one. Someone I work with has 5. The one thing I DO know about autoimmune diseases, the symptoms vary WIDELY. It very well could be an autoimmune disease and the rheumatologist is definitely the doctor to see.

If you use artificial sweeteners, this could be related.

Try taking Lysine. I had issues with my mouth and it helped. Good for preventing cold sores too
