Photographers of Threads 'Acts of defiance' - 20 years ago, when I first started learning/shooting portraits, I hung out in a local photography forum + I was constantly bashed by 'experts' on the photos I posted. 'Not sharp enough', 'How come she is not smiling?' etc. I am OK with feedbacks, but not once anyone asked me, 'What is your visual intent?' I was frustrated. [1/2]

4 分鐘內	Joe Low fibernode	[2/2] In response, I made sure whatever I posted had only 1 visual intent- 'Too wind up + pissed off these 'experts'. I made sure my models never smile, my images were OOF on the face, images with a 'half cut' face (my fave) + images with cut off limbs. When asked why? I always replied 'Because I can'. I always believe, portraiture have no rules, just as long you established your visual intents. The only rule I follow is light. Reason being light is physics.
