Why is deadlifting on the smith looked down on?

Didn’t know it was. I mean I’ve never done it but I would if preparing for a comp that had some kind of locked in deadlift like car deadlift.

It locks you into a set motion. Sure the weight should come straight up, BUT on a smith people are usually pulling their hips to the bar since you can't pull the bar to your hips. That's is bad form and will lead to injury.also the smith doesn't go all the way to the floor

It's not deadlifting. It's more of a rack pull. If it's all that's available then fine. Otherwise, other methods are much more effective.

Who cares. After lifting for over 40 years I do what works. Smith machine is great for many things.

As soon as you pull anything other than perfectly up, you basically jam against the runners. Limits your weight and just doesn't add anything

What kind of deadlift? RDL on a smiths is fine as generally you do it for ham/glute targetting but conventional is counterproductive as its a skill rather than a specific hypertrophy exercise.
