We're behind the times, just watched Slow Horses series 1. Is it just me, or are lots of us fondly remembering 80s office life, full of smoke, and bosses who swore at you, and you could be as rude as you liked if it was funny? I mean, I know the world is a better, fairer place, and that being corrected by my kids is good for me, etc. It is a bit of a strain though, being good, isn't it? I felt weirdly relieved watching Gary Oldman, like I was briefly visiting my own planet. Slow Horses

9 小時內	Steve Leonard leonardselc2	Yes. I worked at The Mirror, newspaper office. No aircon. No computers. Pads and pens and telephones, and a fax machine. A cigarette smoked with every phone call, so overflowing ashtrays on almost every desk. Sounds dreadful now, and there were a few non smokers, poor things. However there was a fantastic canteen - subsidised and catering mainly for the hundreds of round the clock printing staff - amazing cheap dinners and fabulous puddings (with custard, obvs) any time of day.
9 小時內	Gary Kitchen garykitchenart	I am/was a non-smoker but in the 1970s shared a ten foot square office with a 60 a day smoker, I was probably breathing in 20 a day myself after he'd breathed it all out, hopefully his lungs filtered all the tar out of it before I go to it. I left that office to go sit next to someone who had a pipe burning from 9am to 5pm, like sitting next to a bonfire all day 😁

I was mostly in the machine room where cash /cheque payments were counted, a very smoky room , ruled by the supervisor , Jan. I was 18, and worked with 6 others, all women, who did their utmost to embarrass me everyday , and were very successful at this. 🤣
