Traditionally the shower was a smaller/less expensive gift for the bride. Item of lingerie, or small items for the kitchen and a recipe card. Showers often had themes - to set up a room in the house, etc.

Yup the bridal is usually something for the bride such as lingeries, toys, kitchenware, etc. In my culture it's customary to gift money for weddings or any event that has both partners such as house warmings, kids birthdays, etc. for weddings it's always safe to do cash/gift card for something they will use
