When NBC took over the Sunday night games a decade or so ago, I recall highlight being part of the rights deal and ESPN had to stop the then legendary recap show with Chris Berman and Tom Jackson. It is now back, but only on ESPN+. I am certain the NFL controls access and to the highlights quite similarly now, with all of the social media and streaming sources that would grab them for free without the tight grip.
