there was a pretty bad fire a few floors above our unit last Tuesday. THANKFULLY we made it out and apartment seemed okay.

Ladder truck carries about 200 gallons. A typical engine carries at least 1000. A water tanker truck is typically 2000+. Many fire engines can pump 1000+ gallons per minute. Just to give you an idea of the amount of water that most FDs have at your average fire, before they tap the fire hydrant.
