So my dermatologist in Santa Barbara is notoriously hard to get an appointment with. It took me 8 months to get in as a new patient. At that point though I was good for required follow-ups and annual appointments. Last week I was getting in my car to drive there for the annual checkup and realized I hadn’t gotten any of the annoying confirmation texts. So I called them…. (1/3)

They said the doctor had just left the practice and they cancelled all of her appointments. They gave me the number of her new practice. Called them and was told that she didn’t carry any of her appointments over, and that her scheduler would call me. Still haven’t heard from them. And I wasn’t given the option of seeing another doctor at the old practice. (2/3)

This also happened to me, also with a dermatologist. They sure send me plenty of emails on their sales on products though.

I had this happen with my OB... with no notification. I only noticed (luckily Maternal Fetal Medicine was also keeping tabs on me) when the date to make another appointment passed & no one called me. I went to the counter in the same hospital to make an appointment and the receptionist and I found out *AT THE SAME TIME* that "Oh, her last day is Monday... and she's been on vacation for three weeks."

Yes. No notice. Just a letter in the mail. Patient records not available. She left to teach at a medical school. Her employees got the shaft as well.

Happened to me with a GYN. She was leaving so they did call me to reschedule with someone else though. But it was a few weeks of back and forth.

CVS called me the morning of my vax appt (made 2 weeks prior) to tell me they don't do those for my insurance anymore (been getting my shots from them with this pan for 8 years). They're still in network, they just ...don't wanna. So I'm canceled. Full stop. We are not a serious country.

Same thing happened to me with my eye doctor. He left the practice, they cancelled all appointments without notice. Could not get a new annual eye exam scheduled for less than 6 months out, made a medical eye appointment instead, got in the next week. Insisted on getting the annual, an lo and behold! They had a cancelation, opening a slot! Sometimes you gotta get pushy.

My old dentist did this, sold his practice and the new one didn’t carry over appointments, didn’t even send letters to patients letting us know what was going on. New dentist said it would be an additional 6 months for a checkup, basically a year after the prior one. I said no and took my business elsewhere. Funny thing is, the new dentist still sends me a birthday card even though I’ve never been a patient there.
