One of my mentors used to talk about 'the inoculation theory of education'. She was referring to those who finish their formal education and consider themselves 'educated'. They then commit little if any time to expanding their knowledge or wisdom. Eric Hoffer put it like this: “In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”
