Wedding Photographers - what is your secret to turning around your galleries on time? This is something I struggled with since I hit my one year in business mark. Idk if it’s procrastination, a slow workflow, etc

I feel like every season my workflow gets a tiny bit faster, which feels great! I also manage all of my due dates in @clickup. Sometimes I even sort the wedding day into collections and edit one section at a time. That helps to split it up and not dread the huge number of photos I still have left.

Your prices! Hear me out. If you are charging accordingly, you will get to work less and deliver really amazing quality service to the clients who have booked you and a turn around rate that can’t be beat! Since raising mine, I’m able to work weekends (weddings) and besides the engagement sessions for future couples taking up 1-2 days a week, be off and home working, and living!

I have a spreadsheet that I plug all of my gallery names and their due dates into. Then I manually check them off as I go down the line! I also give myself more time than what I actually need. For instance, I consistently deliver regular sessions in about 3 weeks, but I have “gallery will be delivered within 4 weeks of session date” on my contracts

Workflow and tools! 1. The BEST thing I do to get my work done fast is to cull within 24 hours of the wedding day. The next morning if at all possible! Back up the images overnight so it’s ready to go. Culling is the worst part IMO. 2. Edit your favorite images from each part of the day FIRST. This keeps your excitement high and then you can batch edit the rest by syncing from those settings. (1/2)

outsourcing I use @aftershootco for my culling and editing I pay an assistant for admin + invoicing (now that i’m busier) and I use to outsource my album and art designs but i’ve taken that back in house and I do the sales

Create systems and workflows to help you get all the other things done, leaving you with more energy to edit, and consider outsourcing or using a service like aftershoot to cut down on the amount of time you actually have to edit yourself. I struggled with gallery deadlines for a huge chunk of my career, I can totally relate!

1) I stopped doing sneak peeks 2) cull within 5 days of the event 3) organize photos into sections of the day in Lightroom under “collections” and then go section by section and edit 4) really nailing my settings in camera so that my editing presets/profiles only required slight adjustments afterwards 5) body doubling or co-working with a friend to make it more enjoyable (see also audiobooks/podcasts) 6) knowing when it’s time to outsource to an editor—being burnt out serves no one!

Create small goals and take breaks. For example: Day 1: Upload and backup all photos Day 2: Cull Getting Ready Day 3: Cull Ceremony Day 4: Cull Formal Photos Day 5: Cull Reception Day 6: Edit Getting Ready Break it down however you need. You can combine days and give yourself time frames. You don’t have to glue yourself to your computer. With systems like this you can comfortably edit in under 2 weeks.

Cull the full gallery and edit anchor images the next day while it’s still fresh on your mind Deliver the anchor images as the couples sneak peeks Give the couple an exact date on when they’ll receive their full gallery Use the anchor images to edit the rest of your gallery. Set a goal of editing X amount of images per day Start first thing in the morning so you won’t procrastinate This is the most palatable way for me to edit weddings. I hope it’s helpful for you! 💛
