Same reason you want the table to break when you're a pro wrestler doing a high flying move onto it. It's when it doesn't break that real injuries are most likely.

The inside layers of the helmet are supposed to absorb the impact of your head. They get crumpled between your head and the hard outer shell. The outer shell is supposed to resist, not crack. You're thinking of cars.

Wrong application of that concept. It’s not like a bumper on a car. They are not designed to break in order to reduce impact. There is no cushion that lets a little break but stops after that.

Whatever the physics, I’d take my head breaking within the cushioned helmet over whatever would happen to it being in the other helmet but that’s just me, may be the more scientifically inclined would just prefer their brains being impaled by the steel beam instead 🤷🏻‍♂️

Should be an ad to buy that helmet.

I’ve seen this twice and it’s got to be bait. Have yall not looked at a helmet before? There is a layer of expanded polystyrene in between the shell and your head that dissipates impact force. The shell is supposed to hold its shape to keep your head contained within that protective cushion and foreign objects out.

So taking the steel rod directly to the brains is better somehow?

It's a bit like when people say a car is strong because it has a big accident and there's little damage You want the crumple zones go absorb the impact rather than your spine

No fr tho. Like that second helmet is still gonna need to be replaced. These things really are only meant to work once and even if the outside is undamaged all the shock absorbers inside aren't gonna be almost completely useless the second and third times around.
