I would call Emily’s vibe more emotional-romance in general, but from my recollection, Book Lovers may be more romcom than drama. The rest (as far as I remember) all focus on emotionally-vulnerable people.

I agree with the other two comments here, there is always going to me of a bit of emotional drama in her novels. Beach Read is actually my favorite so idk if my rec would be best lol but if you want more of a romcom-ish vibe I’d go with Book Lovers.

I think Funny Story and Happy Place are more traditional romances. Funny Story is fake dating. Happy Place is second chance romance. They are my favorite Emily Henry novels.

I think I understand what you mean, the story with her father and the topic of one of the books felt a bit heavy to me when I read it. I've read all of her other books too and I don't think the other ones felt like dramas to me even though there are complex situations and emotions involved. My favorites were book lovers and funny story, the humor was just amazing.

I think Funny Story comes closest to a romcom, the banter was impeccable.

I don’t think she writes romcoms, if that’s what you’re looking for. They’re contemporary romances bordering on women’s fiction, some more than others
