For my apprenticeship I prepared two books- one of my publication and digital illustration work, one of tattoo designs. I ran the gamut with the tattoo flash but a great many of them were renditions of classic designs you see all the time- daggers, snakes, dope shit. You seem aware enough to realize going “I only draw in this style” is shooting yourself in the foot from a hiring perspective, so show them a slice of what your work is and what work you would do if they took you on to train.

Get tattooed by people that are killing the style you’re looking to do ask lots of questions and see if they’re looking or interested in an apprentice . Getting tattooed builds a relationship and breaks the ice of that awkward feeling you get walking into a random shop and asking . You’ll also be able to tell if the potential mentor is a douche that’ll treat you like shit through out your apprenticeship
