As an atheist on threads I usually end up nagging believers to produce ‘evidence’ Sometimes the response is that they are in a relationship with Jesus and simply ‘know’ it’s true. This usually ends the debate However, I’ve started to wonder if this is an occurrence of the ‘Bicameral Mind’ phenomenon? That is, they genuinely communicate with an entity called Jesus - it’s just that I believe it is a construct of their mind, whereas they sincerely believe it is Jesus.

4 小時內	davidjcauley	The bicameral mind is pretty much debunked, though that doesn't debunk the notion that "supernatural" contact may be generated within the mind. My challenge is this: test it. There are thousands of techniques and practices that can produce seemingly non-normal experiences, some of which may well blow away old assumptions and reveal them for the mere BELIEF they were, and which can yield immensley useful results, regardless of what "model" one believes to explain the experience
一天內	Paul Blake thatpaulchap	Language is the barrier in these debates. “They genuinely communicate with an entity…that is a construct of their mind” becomes problematic because we will chose to interpret “genuinely” in different ways. Likewise “knowing something to be true” in one sense is an empirical statement but in another is a delusion. The key to breaking the deadlock has to be demonstrability and predictability. On either side of the debate if your “evidence” cannot verified by a 3rd party then it’s not evidence.
