Please please don’t let me do this to my kids 🙏 I wanted a real connection with my mother and instead this is all I ever got

That's hard. The option I eventually went for was to get on the phone and get those mundane life updates, weekly for about six years. My mother died six years ago, those stupid conversations are precious to me.

I love my mom but every time she calls me it's to complain and talk about her dogs. It's frustrating, it's the reason why we don't visit too, she cares more about her dogs than her grandchildren.

My aunt does this for over an hour. I usually just let her talk and put her on mute while I do the dishes. She usually just needs someone to talk to since she’s really lonely.

You don’t. You listen to her . She’s your mother and she won’t be around forever. One day you’ll wish she’d call you and share with you her mundane life updates of every single person that she knows. That’s a promise.

My mom does the same thing. I let her prattle on while I multi task. Someday she’ll be gone, and I will miss the sound of her voice. That’s how I deal with some of the ramblings. Good luck❤️

I've been avoiding calling my father so I can avoid hearing his political rants. But his birthday is coming up so I'm going to have to bite the bullet. But I still wish I could call my Mom. It'll be 9 years next month since she's been gone.
