I know people are getting a good laugh at the “they’re eating dogs” moment, but this is actually a very racist trope that many people besides Trump have used against the poor, people of color, and immigrants. I can’t count how many times some have asked if I eat my own dogs.

You absolutely should not ever have to hear that from a person who is running for a position that is supposed to represent all people in America. 💔 My biggest takeaway from the debate tonight was his intentional, repetitive stoking of racism and xenophobia. In high school in the afternoons a friend and I helped tutor two classmates who were brothers who had immigrated from Vietnam. They knew very little English when we started. They still had a lot to learn by the end of the year but it was impressive how far they'd come. They mentioned that stereotype once and how they had been warned before leaving that it was something they'd be asked. And less than a year they said they had been multiple times already. ☹️🫂🫂
