Ten years ago a lot of people I respect (including me) lost their jobs at IDG. Hard to believe it's been a decade. I had tried to quit a few months before, got talked into staying because it was going to be different. It wasn't. At least I got severance out of it. At so many media companies, the core friction seems to be that the company exists because it makes things for people to consume, without which the company has nothing. And the people at the top don't really fundamentally understand what that process is like.
