It's so gross how they keep calling him president. I know it's precedent, it's what has always been done for past presidents. But it grinds my gears. He wasn't worthy of the title when he had it, he's definitely not now.

It never was the convention. Traditionally former presidents are called by their name. There is a famous story of Kennedy calling Eisenhower for consultantion. Eisenhower called Kennedy Mr. President & Kennedy called Eisenhower General. There is only ever one president at a time. Obama goes by Mr. Obama. Trump is the first not to not accept the transition.

I've always thought it was weird that we call former office holders by their previous titles. I was taught that we don't have a ruling class in America. I thought they went back to being everyday citizens when their term was up. That's why I haven't really ever used previous titles for anyone.
