Thinking today about how I lived on about 36k a year for most of my early 20s when I first moved to Denver but I also went out to shows, did road trips, ate at restaurants, and shopped at local boutiques and music stores all the time bc my rent was less than 1/4 my income. I'm now making roughly 250% what I did then but now housing costs 50% of my income so no wonder cities are dying. Nobody can afford city stuff if you live in the city anymore.
