The terrible and beautiful thing is that both can be true at the same point. There was fear and hate and violence. There was also compassion and humility and heroics. One doesn't not cancel the other and that goes both ways. So statements like this are crap because it tries to ignore the other but equally "we weren't better people on 9/12" is too. Some of us were. (Not me) Don't let them gold leaf the bear 💩 but don't crush a flower with that same 💩. That is not how you grow more flowers.
