I may never see him again. That's what snapped me out of my numbness and made me cry myself to sleep. We did lose contact a few months later. He ended up in Iraq. When we reunited in 2011 he told me how everything was locked down, how it was all hurry-up-and-wait, etc. He refrains from telling me any of the gnarlier stories. I don't blame him.
