Weirdly almost every couple are wild women and over zealous pruners/ lawn mowers men. I’m divorcing on that very subject and my grass is waist high. Happy days.

Same in my house - i made the wild bit look like it was “on purpose” with some edging stones and a truce was reached. There’s a lot of cultural/social/colonial/emotional baggage with lawns…

A clearly defined path or walkway or point of interest, really lush not sparse planting and repetitive species and colors will satisfy his sense of order. Go for it!
