I actually think networking is BS. Get so good that people can't ignore you, that's how you network. Networking without anything to show for is a waste of everyone's time.

I am where I am partly because I networked like hell, listened & observed others, earned trust of important people, and iterated on that formula. There is different paths to becoming great, so networking may not be your path, but it is a successful path for many people.
