Trump supporters aren't wrong when they think the charges against Trump are attacks on their beliefs. That's not the motivating factor, but Trump's policies and narratives have always been based on lies and subjecting those lies to scrutiny undermines everything Trump and his supporters stand for. To support Trump policies is to believe lies and anything that calls those lies into question is an attack on his supporter's beliefs because their beliefs are not justifiable without lies.
