When Americans ask me where I'm from and I say England, I get one of two responses - either "oh, I thought you were from Australia/New Zealand/South Africa" or "well durr, where in England?" If I get the latter and they're being a clever clogs I respond with "Boston" and watch the gears turn in their head until it explodes.
