It's the social exchange theory. Each person in a relationship decides what they consider acceptable costs for desired benefits. The key is finding someone who agrees to those terms. The transaction isn't always discussed, but simply acted out. What was once considered unthinkable, for some, sometimes becomes a new norm.

If I didn’t get any of those things done (either had no interest or couldn’t afford it) & the man wanted me to, then I’d expect him to pay for it. Otherwise, if I want to get my nails & lashes done, why would I expect him to pay? If he wants to go on car rides bc that’s his thing, would it be fair for him to expect me to pay for the gas for those car rides? It is unfair to force the costs of your chosen lifestyle on someone else. Women wouldn’t accept it if it was done by men, now would they? 🤔

5 year old explanation lol: If you want the shiny race car toy it costs $10 and costs $5 for it to be shiny. I’ll pay $10 for you and the store already made it shiny so you don’t have to pay $5 until you get it dirty or have played with it for a while. Don’t keep it shiny, you won’t want to play with it anymore. So we’ll give it away and the thrift store will make it shiny again. The next kid loves it though so they clean it every day even if it costs them $10! We take care of the things we love
