So this was a first at the airport. My bag was searched after the scanners today because I had a “suspicious amount of books for a weekend away”.

This sounds like something that would be happening to me. 🙃 There's never too many books for getaways as I like to say. Maybe because I typically pack more books than clothes. 😅

Had my suitcase ripped to shreds coming back from Hawaii because one of my medical textbooks was apparently “the same density as a bomb”

The density of the books is the problem. It can look like explosives. I travel with half a suitcases of books (teach law) and when I did carry on I always got stopped. Started checking.

What do they do if you have a kindle with over a thousand books I wonder. 🤔

You should have seen me at Heathrow with a backpack full of dice after a week playing D&D up north 🤦🏻♀️.

I bring an e-reader because TSA ruined a paperback of mine years ago just cramming it back in my bag and because I was held up l, I had to sprint to my gate and I couldn't get the book out until after barely making it on the plane. By that point, the damage had been done and there was no fixing it. It was a secondhand paperback, so it was already gentle worn. But that day was the reason why I later had to tape the pages together. At this point, I'm traumatized by the experience. Never again.
