I believe the best saffron is the stamen of the flower not the petals, and usually from the Middle East. I have heard about a farm in Oregon which is growing decent saffron.

That is not saffron, that is saflower.

Saffron spice uses just the stigma of the flower, which is why it's so expensive . This looks like whole flowers, which is considerably less labor and a lot less pure.

Kasubha! Common in the Philippines. Colours like saffron but lacks the taste and fragrance. Selling it as saffron is a scam.
