To everyone commenting that the US is too big, China is also a big country but have successfully built their own high speed railway. The problem with America is our car centric culture. Our infrastructure is solely built for cars (big roads, alack of sidewalks, huge highway networks). Unless you live in a metropolitan, owning a car is a necessity and its a pain to have to drive everywhere. Well that’s why I live in Japan now and their shinkansen is awesome!

13 分鐘內	Bagas Dilts badassdilts	To add to this, Japan’s infrastructure is very compact. They have to make use of every available land they can get due to limited space. That doesn’t mean that America is incapable of that. It’s just there’s too much bureaucracy to go through to change things and its super expensive. I read how the California highspeed railway project gets sued by landowners every x amount of miles they dig through.
