1. Young people are learning technology. But in today’s schools, PowerPoint is like a rotary dial phone.  2. Many schools use Apple products, so they wouldn’t be using PowerPoint. 3. Most schools use Google Classroom or Google products like Google Docs or Google slides. 

My school board uses Google slides. Many students can independently create fantastic slideshows using this website.

I learned that in middle school. (Former 5th teacher). Those aren’t elementary standards in Texas at least. We barely have time to teach those.

Your kid knows how to use Google slides now. :)

Ikr?! People love to say how their 2 year old is a genius because they can navigate YouTube on their iPad all by themselves and make the excuse that they give their kids an iPad as early as 6 months old because “they need to learn technology or they’ll be behind the other kids!” when literally anyone can be taught to use a touch screen device. School aged kids need to learn how to type and how to save files, etc.

Because they're not in my 3rd grade eMints classroom. We use technology that is more advanced though. They CAN choose a PowerPoint if they want to.

I never had to teach them how in my fourth grade class. They loved exploring how to make it work. I let the techie kids go around and assist the kids who needed more help.

Because we literally can’t win—“back to basics!” “No, STEM!” “Teach keyboarding!” “No, why can’t my child write in cursive?!” There’s only so much time in a day, we don’t have enough devices, the curriculum is packed, and A LOT of the day is taken up in social issues, redirecting kids. (Oh yeah, and they use Google Slides 🤷‍♀️)
