Your therapist hit the point. Can you imagine life without what they give you? It's not about materialistic things , what they add to your life. Do they emotionally support you ? Do they lift you up and bright up your day? Do they cheer for you? Are they by your side when you are hurting? Do they appreciate your weirdness? How about sharing joyous moments together? Do they know you to the core with all your insecurities, yet you still feel safe around them?

I agree that’s a weird way to put it. I think it better to ask do you know the purpose of the two of you coming together. Like what’s the point of you marrying? If the reason is one you dont believe ca be sustained then the foundation of the marriage will be weak to begin with.

Agreed, I think yours is a healthy perspective. I don’t know if the question should be “can I live without this person “- But rather something along the lines of “is my life, overall, Better as a result of this person being in it?”

What are you even doing with this therapist? Gosh, the bar is in hell both for men and therapists. If you can’t live without someone that’s codependency and it’s absolutely not healthy. You want a partner, it’s a want not a need (for healthy individuals). Weren’t you just fine before him? It would be more like “does this person make your life better? Do you feel happier when he’s around? Does he add color to your world?”
