Re-reading The Hobbit right now, and I had totally forgotten that in all his worldbuilding genius, including creating a brand new language, a detailed history, and a fantastical creation story, Tolkien decided to name the three trolls William, Bert, and Tom. The story, as I've heard it told, is thst The Hobbit started as a bedtime story for his child. Those names totally track with that, and I wouldn't want it any other way!
