5th Grade Update: not going to lie, check on your teacher friends, they’re not okay. My classes are good but we lost a first and fourth grade teacher this week. Just walked in with resignations and won’t come back. We lost a front office person as well. I *know* there are more people headed out the door. Is it like this everywhere? Is it just our building? In 20+ years I’ve never seen anything like it.

Half of the school resigned last year, the new hires can not handle the work, the parents, the demands and the little money we make for the amount of time we put into this career. This is my second year teaching and i believe I can only do one more and I’m done!

My prior career was in tech but none of my skills from 15 years ago matter in that now. Hanging on for early retirement. Or some pencil pusher job I can keep my pension and insurance within the county?

Also, it really has to do with lack of support from admin as well as school committees not caring about educators and not putting anything in place to ensure their safety or wellbeing. Kids are a lot and do not get held accountable for their actions.

It is a struggle out here. And sometimes, it’s not because of the kids, it’s because of the adults that act like children.
