Do people still eat out in the UK? I’ve heard that it’s eye wateringly expensive. In Japan you can easily find lunch for 6 quid. Why is the UK so expensive?

No, nobody eats out anymore, the last Restaurant, which was a Happy Eater on the A303, closed in July.

The UK is cheaper than most other developed countries when it comes to food and groceries so I don't know where you got that from. You can get lunch for 6 quid in most pubs and bakeries

I've easily had great meals around London for £20 including drinks. Which to me isn't too expensive but depends on the person I gues

In Hong Kong, most of the worker does not mind to dine out for lunch(or call delivery) usually 7-10 quid(5-7quid a set lunch at a remote area, 8-15quid a set lunch in Central/CWB like Liverpool in London) I am so curious why the restaurant in London is so expensive. It is not possible to dine out every lunch(working days). You have to buy meal deal at supermarket or bread in coffee shop. In Hong Kong, it is so common to dine out for lunch during working days and it is a hot food instead.

Taxation and high staff wages. It's all over the bill, from VAT to business rates. Now in London, they add on service charges automatically to jack it up even further.
