Contrary to your belief: No, there’s not an easier way to do it. An eternity later and we haven’t even completely switched from IPv4 to IPv6. This is a much bigger ask that literally solves nothing. You’d be stunned to even realize all this shit works and is an open protocol that’s device and platform independent.
