Lots of people grumbling that the Aurora were only *really* visible through a camera and that the flood of vivid photos on social media are a sort of communal hallucination of exaggeration. Well. I think there’s something pretty amazing about carrying a device in your pocket that reveals another layer of reality that your eye can’t parse - just like insects that see more colours than humans, or plants which glow in UV light, or polarising sunglasses which let you see the fish in the river.
