Can anyone explain to the non American why does the tipping culture seem a bit uh extreme there. Based on social media posts people are asked to tip for self service things (?) and also a significant percentage (upwards of 30%?). I'm in South East Asia and while tips are nice, it's not (rudely) demanded from customers. We have service taxes on top of the bill, cashiers have a tip jar and delivery apps have option to add extra $$ for tips.
