IMO If you're married (or in a committed relationship) and still "independent", you're not doing it right. The point of marriage (commitment) is to share life with someone and rely on them. The specific dynamics of a relationship may vary (who pays bills, chores, kids, etc), but you do it ALL together. It's not that you can't do it without them, you shouldn't want to.
