Why is that teachers say not to use Wikipedia, the most comprehensive source on the whole internet?

It is like any other encyclopedia; use it as a starting point to understand a topic, but then find other sources to cite. Many of them you can find at the very bottom of the Wikipedia article 😂

It can be edited. However, now, Wikipedia often provides actual links on many things that are legitimate sources and can be used. I've shown my kids that when they are researching.

Because anyone can put anything in there and no one has fact checked it. It’s just not reliable.

As a teacher, we taught it could be used to find sources but not as a source. Wikipedia actually says it is not a reliable source.

It’s not all valid information. You have to be able to recognize a credible source, which many people have not been taught to do.
