I think we can all agree We need longer maternity leave!! 6-8 weeks (if you’re lucky) just isn’t long enough!! How long did you have?

Sweden here, we get up to 480 days of paid materinity leave where 90 of those are binding and can't be taken away. Plus an additional of ten days directly after your child is born. All paid.

I took 9 weeks. 6 were paid at 60% (short term disability), 3 were PTO I had saved up. Next time around I would take the full 12 FMLA weeks and just take the difference unpaid. Because even 12 weeks isn’t enough.

I’m a SAHM mum as I quit my job during pregnancy due to unfair treatment and no one else would hire me afterwards due to being pregnant. Personally I feel 12-18 months should be sufficient maternity leave so that both the mother and child are secure enough and the child is developed enough to not depend on the mother as much. 6-12 weeks is absurd!
