Remember it starts to get dark very early and along with the rain can prove tricky.

Please be careful, there are lots of accidents caused by distracted tourists driving on the wrong side of the road.

Are you American? Learn roundabouts before you come - watch YouTube videos. And learn the road signs - they’re not the same. I drove for 20 years in the US before I moved here and I’m still glad I took lessons in the UK. It’s not just driving on the left, it’s turning from the left and merging from the opposite direction on motorways. The fast lane is the opposite one. I would not drive if I was just coming on holiday - there are trains to most places.

The roads are really really narrow with no shoulder. Driving through small towns is crazy making as cars are parked basically in your lane and you've got busses coming down the road at you as you maneuver around the parked cars. The M rated motorways are great.

If you like driving, you will love driving on Scotland and Ireland. Some of the best roads ever. They won't necessarily get you somewhere quickly, as we have motorways for that, but you will see beautiful views and enjoy great curves.
