Pro tip: don’t tell an electrician you need an EV line run in your garage. Just tell them you need a 240v outlet capable of however many amps (depends on charger) for an industrial shop tool install. (Amperage is important, otherwise they might run too small a gauge of wire & proper breaker). Too many companies jack up the price when they hear EV needlessly. It’s kinds like the old Wedding Tax addage. It can sometimes mean the difference between a few hundred dollars and several thousand!

Or do it yourself if you're handy, capable of being safe with electricity, and that's allowed in your jurisdiction! One problem with not mentioning EVs is that low-cost NEMA 14-50 outlets cannot handle the continuous load associated with 8+ hours charging for very long, and they're fully code-compliant. They do burn eventually. Better to hire an honest and EV-knowledgeable electrician if you can't do it yourself.

As if an electrician would be so stupid as not to realise this line in your house isn't for "an industrial shop tool"

The demand factor for an EVSE is much greater than Appliance so in many cases when your close to the full capacity of your electric service you can handle adding circuit for an appliance but not EVSE. And the extra cost is for a service upgrade which is very labour intensive and needs many parts which can be on back order

Have fun paying the significant up charge for that GFCI breaker they will need to use to pass inspection for adding a receptacle instead of hardwiring the charger!

In the UK, EV chargers need to be notified to DNO, need bidirectional breakers and many models need an earth rod. There may also be a data connection and also current monitoring So you can’t connect it to a standard outlet. Any new circuit also needs to be notified to building control and have an electrical certificate. And no price is not jacked up because you say ‘EV’ but if you don’t say it you won’t get it properly installed . Outside UK - I’ve no idea
